Sheppard at Moroccan Lounge, Los Angeles

August 30, 2024

It’s hard to believe that 10 years have passed since Sheppard's catchy anthem "Geronimo" first took the world by storm, but the Australian indie-pop band proved last night that their energy and spirit are as strong as ever. Celebrating the decade-long success of their breakout hit, the band took to the intimate stage of the Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles as a part of their anniversary Say Geronimo! Tour that delivered a perfect blend of nostalgia and fresh vibrance.

From the moment they hit the stage, it was clear that the band, led by siblings George, Amy, and Emma Sheppard, were not only ready to revisit their past but eager to show how they’ve grown. The Moroccan Lounge, with its cozy yet lively atmosphere, was the perfect setting for the band to connect deeply with fans, many of whom have followed them since the early days. Their crowd, a mix of devoted long-timers and newcomers, buzzed with anticipation as the band launched into a high-energy opener with "Coming Home," setting the tone for what would be a fun and upbeat evening.

Of course, the centerpiece of the night was "Geronimo," the song that catapulted Sheppard to international fame. When they finally got to the track midway through the set, the entire venue erupted. Every voice in the room joined in to shout the chorus, "Say Geronimo!" and the band fed off that energy, smiling and clearly enjoying the moment as much as the fans. Amy Sheppard’s crystalline vocals soared while George's charismatic presence anchored the performance with ease. They reminisced between songs, with George sharing stories about how "Geronimo" changed their lives and led them on a whirlwind journey.

Beyond the hits, Sheppard gave the audience a taste of their newer material. They played music from their latest album, Zora featuring tracks like “Got to be Loved” and more. Tracks like "Die Young" and "Learning to Fly" showcased a more mature, reflective side of the band, with rich harmonies and polished arrangements that demonstrated how they've evolved musically over the years. However, even the newer songs maintained the uplifting spirit that have become the band’s signature.

It was clear that while "Geronimo" may have been the song that introduced Sheppard to the world, their journey is far from over. This band has a wonderful ability to evolve and connect with their audience as they’ve grown. All in all, Sheppard’s show was a heartfelt, joyful celebration of their music over the years. The band showed that not only are they still able to command a room, but they’re also continuing to grow and push their sound forward, promising more to come.
