Julie at Fonda Theater, Los Angeles
On November 12th & 13th 2024, shoe gaze band Julie finished out their last two shows in their hometown of Los Angeles at the Fonda Theatre. This tour was to promote their well received debut album “my anti-aircraft friend.” On this second leg of the tour, these rising stars were accompanied by fellow shoe gaze band Her New Knife and hyper pop due Frost Children. I was lucky enough to catch the first show of the two nights after missing out on past performances.
Her New Knife took the stage first. Visually, the band was strongly silhouetted which paired nicely with their grungy instrumentals and harsh vocals. In contrast, Frost Children followed next, flashing bright strobe lights and blaring hyper pop beats. The audience appreciated the diversity of tones!
Julie entered the stage after their crew adorned the set with hanging lamps that provided an interesting lighting setup. They opened with one of their popular singles “catalogue.” Hearing their music live for the first was absolutely exceptional. Their guitar sound is so lush and full and their drummer packs a punch. The crowd could not help but mosh and dance to their whole set. Whether you were front row or sitting at the balcony, you could hear the full extent of their heavy, grungy instrumentals.
